History of Prag Mahal

Prag Mahal was commissioned by Maharaja Pragmalji II in 1865 and designed by the renowned British architect Colonel Henry Saint Clair Wilkins. The construction was completed under the supervision of local artisans using Italian marble and sandstone from Rajasthan. The palace was built at a cost of 20 lakh rupees, a huge amount at that time, and remains a symbol of the royal family’s prosperity and artistic vision.
Although parts of it were damaged in the 2001 Bhuj earthquake, Prag Mahal still retains its historical charm and has been partially restored for visitors.
