Ravana requested Shiva to come to Lanka, and Shiva gave him a Jyotirlinga with the condition that it should not be placed on the ground. On his way, the gods tricked Ravana, and the Jyotirlinga was placed in Deoghar, where it became Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga.
