Prayagraj

Prayagraj, formerly known as Allahabad, is one of India’s most ancient and holiest cities. Located in Uttar Pradesh, it is world-famous for the Triveni Sangam-the sacred meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. Prayagraj holds immense spiritual importance in Hinduism and is also rich in history, literature, and the freedom movement of India.

From grand religious gatherings like the Kumbh Mela to historic forts and vibrant ghats, Prayagraj offers a deep and meaningful travel experience.

History of Prayagraj

The name Prayagraj means “place of sacrifice” and is mentioned in ancient Hindu scriptures. It is believed that Lord Brahma performed the first yajna (sacrifice) here after creating the universe.

In medieval times, the city came under Mughal rule, and Emperor Akbar renamed it Allahabad and built the grand fort in the 16th century. During British rule, Allahabad became a major administrative and educational center and played a key role in India’s freedom struggle. It was also home to many national leaders, including the Nehru family.

In 2018, the city officially regained its ancient name, Prayagraj.
