Ganesh Chaturthi is a grand Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and harbinger of wisdom. Devotees welcome Ganpati with devotion, rituals, modaks, and cultural festivities across India. The celebration concludes with the vibrant Ganesh Visarjan, spreading joy, unity, and eco-friendly devotion.

Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals in India. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings, this festival is observed with great devotion and enthusiasm across the country, especially in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Goa.

The festival marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

According to legends, Goddess Parvati created Ganesha out of sandalwood paste, and Lord Shiva later blessed him as the leader of the Ganas (attendants of Shiva). Lord Ganesha is worshipped first in every ritual as he is considered the Vighnaharta (remover of obstacles). Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi is believed to bring happiness, success, and prosperity into one’s life.

Ganesh Chaturthi usually falls in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada (August–September) and is celebrated for 10 days.

Clay idols of Lord Ganesha are installed in homes and public pandals. The idol is decorated with flowers, lights, and ornaments. Devotees perform puja with mantras, aarti, and bhajans.Offerings include modaks, laddus, durva grass, and red flowers. Cultural programs, devotional singing, and plays are organized in pandals. People come together to spread unity, devotion, and joy. On the last day (Anant Chaturdashi), the idol is immersed in rivers, lakes, or the sea. Devotees chant “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya” (Come again next year, Lord Ganesha!).

Ganesh Chaturthi is more than just a festival - it is a celebration of faith, unity, and positivity. By welcoming Lord Ganesha into our homes and hearts, we seek his blessings for wisdom, prosperity, and a life free of obstacles. Celebrating the festival in an eco-friendly manner ensures that our devotion goes hand-in-hand with protecting nature.

Eco-Friendly Celebrations

In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi in an eco-friendly way: Using clay idols instead of plaster of Paris (POP). Decorating with natural flowers and organic colors. Performing symbolic immersion in buckets at home to reduce water pollution.
