History:

The park was inaugurated in 1964 by then Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri to honor the life and teachings of Lord Buddha. A sapling of the Bodhi tree from Sri Lanka, which itself comes from the original tree in Bodh Gaya, was also planted here, adding to the park’s spiritual significance.
