About Patola Weaving

Patola sarees are handwoven using the double ikat technique, where both the warp and weft threads are dyed separately before weaving. The process demands months of precision, as even a tiny mistake can disturb the pattern. Traditionally, these sarees were worn by royal families and are considered symbols of luxury and auspiciousness.

Inside the Museum

The museum offers visitors a rare opportunity to witness the entire process of Patola weaving, from dyeing to thread alignment. It also displays ancient looms, traditional tools, old photographs, and rare Patola designs passed down through generations. Visitors can even interact with the Salvi weavers, who explain the secrets behind the art that takes four to six months to complete a single saree.
